China Leads U.S. in High-Tech Goods
Elite Opinion Proven Wrong
Talking heads and out of touch elitists tell us America doesn't need industries like steel and automobiles because we'll have new jobs in high-tech information industries. They were wrong about that and they are wrong in their blind faith in so-called free trade...
A new report delivers a death blow to the flawed preachings of the elite talking heads who say America will lead the world in the Information Age.
The International Herald Tribune reports "China has overtaken the United States as the world's biggest supplier of information technology goods, according to a report by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development released Monday" and "China's exports of information and communication technology - including laptop computers, mobile phones and digital cameras - increased to $180 billion in 2004 from a year earlier, easily outstripping for the first time US exports of $149 billion."
"Talking heads and out of touch elitists tell us America doesn't need industries like steel and automobiles because we'll have new jobs in high-tech information industries. They were wrong about that and they are wrong in their blind faith in so-called free trade," says Jack Davis, Erie County industrialist.
A November poll by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press shows just how out-of-touch the elite talking heads are. The survey shows 84% of the public ranks "Protect American Jobs" as a top policy priority, while the issue didn't even register with the big shots in the media and academia.
Meanwhile, experts say China's dominance in high-tech threatens US national security. "China's military works closely with information technology companies and the government's research and development sector" to support the country's rapid military modernization, the Tribune further reports. A report to Congress last month warns of "future U.S. dependency on China for certain items critical to the U.S. defense industry as well as vital to continued economic leadership."
"American industry, whether it's in electronics or automobile parts, cannot compete against the slave labor and predatory trade practices of Communist China. Our government must take decisive action to ensure the survival of American industry, including the use of trade balancing tariffs," says Davis.
