Enforcing the Law, Protecting Our Borders
Protecting our way of life means defending American workers and jobs with my two-fold strategy. First, we must deal with the global marketplace by changing our trade policies from predatory free trade that harms us to balanced trade that helps everyone. Second, we must protect our workers here at home.
Immigration is an important part of our culture if it’s done through our legal immigration system. The problem is that even though we welcome skilled workers, students, or legitimate asylum seekers, there are still millions of people in the United States who skipped the line and either entered the United States illegally or have overstayed an expired visa.
However, it’s not just the illegal aliens at fault here. Many industries entice people to come here illegally and exploit them once they’re here – sticking the rest of us with the cost of over-burdened public service systems.
Our immigration policy should be summed up in one word – enforcement. We need tighter controls for people entering the United States and more secure borders – and if a fence is built, it should be made in America, not China as reported by MSNBC. We should enhance and enforce stiffer fines and penalties on employers who exploit workers or engage in human trafficking, and we should streamline our deportation procedures.
I oppose efforts to allow illegal aliens to obtain drivers licenses. Our governments should be keeping our roads safe and our jobs secure, not helping those who are here illegally gain the benefits and privileges of citizenship before they go through a fair process.
I believe that we have pretty simple way of life here in America – we work hard and play by the rules. When people break the rules, they are creating downward pressure on wages, while simultaneously increasing pressure on our government because of infrastructure, law enforcement, and social service costs.
Immigration is a complicated problem, but the costs to our workers and taxpayers are too high to continue with the same failed policies. We need policies that put our workers and families first, and a clear and accountable immigration and naturalization system.
