Jack Davis: “Lee Must Answer Western New York Veterans”
Akron, NY: Democratic candidate Jack Davis, a Marine and former Coast Guard officer reiterated his support for the 21st Century GI Bill’s improved veteran services and educational benefits following the passage of the Bill by an overwhelming majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. Mr. Davis (D) also reiterated his demand that his opponent define his position on this crucial piece of legislation.
“Over a month ago, I asked Mr. Lee to define his position on the 21st Century GI Bill for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and he still hasn’t given an answer to our men and women in uniform and the families they support.”
Although Congressman Tom Reynolds (R) from Lee’s party voted to support this legislation, Mr. Lee has remained silent concerning his position on this World-War II-style Bill that would – among other benefits – allow service members to transfer their education benefits to their spouses and children.
The 21st Century GI Bill is a domestic spending provision of the war supplemental funding bill, which includes a GI Bill for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. This GI Bill would honor U.S. troops and the tremendous sacrifices that their families have made. The New GI Bill will repeal unfair tax burdens on military families, provide Veterans with the benefits they deserve like affordable health care, education and job training, strengthen our support for our men and women in uniform and improve benefits for our National Guard/Reservists.
“Mr. Lee’s silence on this crucial issue is a disappointment to military families. Our Veterans deserve better than that.”
